Repossessed car - any suggestions?

My friend's brother's car, which my friend was driving, was repossessed. Officially, her brother owns the car. Only his name is on the title. He told her it was completely paid off and gave her the car to drive so he could get their mom to help him get a new car. She never made payments towards this car because she thought it was already paid off. Now, she doesn't have a car. She's my roommate and is currently unemployed, but has enough money saved to cover only living costs for another month. Her brother needs about $2500 to recover the car. He doesn't have the money, and neither does she. She's a good friend, but I can't swing that much money either. No one in their family can help. They could try getting a loan, but with her brother's bad credit and her joblessness, it'll be difficult to find a lender. Does anyone have suggestions on what we can do?

Sounds like a sad story but it doesn't make a lot of sense so don't trust them. The brother is crooked and there is something wrong. Whatever you do don't give her money. I have had roommates before, you aren't obligated to help.

She should use the money for a down payment on another car, or save more for a bigger down payment. The more down payment the less money she has to pay per month. She could also lease a car, just make sure she reads the contract really carfully. Volkswagen has that sign and then drive deal, where they ask for no down payment on a lease. But the most important thing is that she needs a job and to not get personal loans.

sounds like you are a little screwed. you will have to get a loan for the money. If you dont act fast, they will put the car up for auction and it will be gone forever. I got my car repossesed and within a week they had auctioned it off. now my credit is royally messed up too.
